Daytime solar systems
A daytime solar system runs your load directly from the panels while the sun is up, with no battery. It is the cheapest way to cut a bill, because the battery is usually the most expensive part of a solar installation and the part that needs replacing first. It does nothing after sunset and nothing during an outage. For a shop, an office, or a house whose heaviest use is in daylight, it returns its cost faster than any other arrangement.

Who it suits
Shops and offices that open in the morning and close in the evening. Houses running air conditioning, pumps or machinery through the afternoon. Anywhere the meter spins hardest between nine and five.
It is the wrong system if what you want is light during load shedding, or power in the evening. Without a battery there is nothing to draw on once the sun is down. If that is the problem you are solving, a hybrid system is the honest answer even though it costs more.
What we fit
Our own 5kVA and 7kVA daytime inverters, built to our specification, and an 8kW SunSaviour unit where more capacity is needed. The units we fit are listed below.
The structure matters more than people expect. We fit L2 rails, elevated 16 or 18 gauge frames, or an H-guarder with channel depending on the roof and the wind exposure. A cheap structure is the thing that fails first in this region, so it is itemised rather than hidden in a total.
Upgrading later
A daytime inverter cannot charge a battery. If you add storage afterwards the inverter has to be replaced, which wastes what you spent on it. Tell us at the survey if a battery is likely within a few years and we will quote a hybrid inverter from the start, which costs more now and less in total.
Questions we are asked
Does a daytime solar system work during load shedding?
No. Without a battery there is nothing to supply the house when the grid is down, and the inverter shuts off for safety. If running through load shedding is what you need, a hybrid system with a lithium battery is the only arrangement that does it.
Is a daytime system cheaper than a hybrid one?
Considerably, because there is no battery. For the same panel capacity a daytime system costs roughly half what a hybrid system does, and it has no component that needs replacing in eight to ten years.
What size daytime inverter do I need?
Size it to the load you run at once, not to your monthly units. A 5kVA inverter suits a typical house running fans, lights, a fridge and one air conditioner; 7kVA or 8kW suits a larger house or a shop with refrigeration. Our load calculator works this out from the appliances you actually have.
